OAT Jr. is Ozark Actors Theatre's education program for students K-12. The purpose of OAT Jr. is to provide training and theatrical education specifically to young people. Theatrical training improves confidence, cognitive ability, the expression of creativity, and interpersonal skills. Providing this training not only improves our community’s appreciation for our work, but deepens the talent pool and enables us to create better work.
The Summer Theatre Academy is intensive training in theatre skills for young actors, split into sessions for ages 6-10 and 11-17 and held yearly in June and July. The focus will be on acting, including some singing and choreography, plus the rehearsal and performance of both plays and musicals. Students will be taught the components of a play and how to audition. Students will learn self-confidence, gain the ability to express themselves physically and emotionally, and experience the thrill of performing on the same stage as our professional actors!
Every weeklong session will be led by teaching artists who are professional actors, Kelsey Sumrall and Benjamin Wegner, and culminate in a Saturday public performance on the Cedar Street Playhouse stage. The tuition includes training, performance, snacks, and a T-shirt.
